The entertaining world, throughout the ages has been full of artistic and flambouyant personalities who are willing to do anything to perform. Passion and determination do not conflict with the feeding their stomachs’, but merely keeping their sights on the illuminated eyes of children who watch, or the skeptic adult become suddenly entranced and sucked in, is what keeps them alive.
In early
Today the term coined ‘celebrity’ is not defined as a well educated, or Harvard taught business man. It does not describe doctors, local leaders or politicians. Children do not want to grow up and to be like their parents, teachers or local librarian. They want to be rich and famous like the actors, popstars and athletes as they see on television and internet and listen to on the radio.
I do not suggest, that these peoples’ talents are lacking or that they do not deserve the recent popularity and or lifestyle, but I am questioning the cause of this current paradigm shift. Why in the history of the world were performers considered less than the other working class members, yet within the last one hundred years they are considered the upper-class, and are better paid than those whom run our banks, teach our youth or lead our country? What mind frame changed this all? Was it television? Radio? Computers? Does this have anything to do with the downfall of our economy? Just some food for thought:)
